S-Tier Clouds: Inside the Spreadsheet-Obsessed World of Vape Flavor Rankings

GeekBarVape

If you've spent any time in competitive gaming circles, you already know the drill. Someone drops a tier list. Half the community agrees. The other half loses their minds in the comments. A week later, a counter-tier list drops and the whole cycle starts over. It's chaotic, weirdly fun, and somehow still useful.

Now that same energy has fully migrated into vape culture — and honestly? It fits perfectly.

Across Reddit, Discord servers, and TikTok comment sections, a growing wave of vape enthusiasts are applying S-through-F tier logic to flavor profiles, building elaborate community spreadsheets, and debating methodology with the kind of intensity usually reserved for Smash Bros. character rankings. Welcome to the flavor tier list era.

Where It Started

Tier lists have been a gaming staple since at least the early 2000s, when fighting game communities started using them to rank character viability in tournaments. Over time, the format bled into everything — anime, fast food, sneakers, hot sauces. The internet loves a ranked list, especially one you can argue about.

For vape communities, the crossover felt almost inevitable. "Most of us grew up gaming," says Marcus, a 29-year-old from Austin who moderates a 12,000-member vape Discord. "We already think in terms of tiers. When someone asks what flavor to try, it's way easier to say 'that one's S-tier' than write a paragraph about mouthfeel."

His server maintains a living Google Sheet — updated weekly, color-coded by flavor category — that ranks over 300 individual vape profiles across multiple brands. There's a separate tab for seasonal drops. Another for limited editions. It's more organized than most corporate databases.

The Methodology Wars

Here's where things get genuinely nerdy, and genuinely contentious. Unlike gaming tier lists, which at least have objective win-rate data to anchor the debate, vape flavor rankings are almost entirely subjective. That hasn't stopped people from trying to systematize them.

Some rankers weight their lists purely on flavor accuracy — does the peach taste like an actual peach, or some vague candy approximation? Others factor in throat hit, vapor production, and how the profile holds up across an extended session (what the community calls "ADV potential," or all-day-vape potential). A vocal faction insists that coil longevity should count toward a flavor's ranking, arguing that a great taste ruined by gunked-up hardware deserves a tier penalty.

"There's a guy in our group who built a literal scoring rubric," says Dani, a 26-year-old from Chicago who runs a vape review account on TikTok. "Like a 10-point scale across five categories. He calls it the Flavor Power Index. We make fun of him, but we also all check his sheet before we buy anything."

The arguments about what should go into a ranking methodology mirror debates you'd find in any gaming community about how to evaluate a character — raw damage vs. utility, solo play vs. team synergy. The framework is the same. Only the variables change.

The Discovery Effect

Beyond the fun of arguing on the internet, these community tier lists are actually reshaping how people find new flavors. Traditional discovery relied on brand loyalty, shop recommendations, or just grabbing whatever looked cool on the shelf. Tier lists introduce a crowdsourced layer that's more like a Metacritic score than a word-of-mouth tip.

"I found my current all-day vape because it kept showing up in the A-tier across three different lists I was looking at," Marcus says. "I never would've tried it otherwise — the branding didn't grab me. But the community consensus was undeniable."

Brands have started to notice. A few have leaned into the tier list culture by sharing community rankings on their own social channels, essentially using fan-made spreadsheets as organic marketing. Others have seeded new flavor drops specifically into influential Discord servers, hoping to land in the S-tier conversation before a wide release.

It's a smart play. In a market where new flavors launch constantly and shelf space is competitive, a strong community ranking can move product faster than a paid ad.

The F-Tier Hall of Shame

Of course, not every flavor makes the cut — and the low end of these lists has developed its own strange culture. F-tier placements get screenshot, memed, and passed around like trading cards. Some flavors have achieved a kind of ironic notoriety from their consistently terrible rankings, developing cult followings of people who vape them specifically because everyone says not to.

"There's this one flavor that has been F-tier on every major list for two years running," Dani laughs. "People buy it as a dare. Someone made a 'F-Tier Challenge' series on YouTube. The brand should honestly be paying those people."

It's peak internet behavior — the same energy that turns a critically panned movie into a midnight cult classic. The F-tier isn't just a warning label anymore. It's a badge of weird honor.

Why This Actually Matters

At first glance, ranking vape flavors like video game characters sounds like peak millennial overthinking. But zoom out a little and you can see something more interesting happening. Tier list culture is a community-building mechanism. It gives people a shared language, a reason to engage, and a framework for turning individual taste into collective knowledge.

For a product category where the options are genuinely overwhelming — walk into any vape shop and count the SKUs — that kind of crowdsourced curation has real value. It's the same reason people trust Letterboxd ratings over a random Google review. Community context makes the information more meaningful.

Plus, let's be honest: arguing about whether a watermelon ice belongs in A-tier or B-tier is just fun. And fun is kind of the whole point.
